UFFI
In the mid-1970s many people became sick after UFFI was sprayed into the wall cavities of many residential homes. It was soon discovered that as UFFI cured, it was emitting formaldehyde gas into the living spaces of these homes in a process known as outgassing. In 1982, The Consumer Product Safety Commission banned new installation of UFFI in homes and schools, but the ban was eventually overturned. If your home was treated with UFFI more than ten years ago, it is probably not currently outgassing formaldehyde.
urea-formaldehyde resin
Used as an adhesive in bath and facial tissue, pressure-treated wood, insulation and fabric finishes, urea formaldehyde resin outgasses high levels of formaldehyde, particularly when these products are new.
urethane
A collection of 5 specifically arranged atoms used to form a flexible polyurethane plastic. The dust created when urethane is sanded and the fumes produced when urethane is burned are extremely toxic.
